3D Aluminium have recently carried out the Design, Fabrication and Installation of Technal Curtain Walling to the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.

One of the country’s best known and busiest hospitals has recently seen its main entrance reconfigured with the construction of a new ‘Welcome Building’, where curtain walling and other fenestration systems from the Technal range help create a light and modern appearance.

Begun just prior to Christmas last year, the 900 square metre single storey addition to the John Radcliffe Hospital has been constructed for The Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust by Beneficial Contracts under a design and build contract.  Locally based 3D Aluminium was the specialist fabricator of Technal systems which supplied and installed 300 square metres of MX Grid Curtain Walling and FXi windows.

Given the hospital’s international prestige and the high volume of patients treated all year round, there was significant pressure on all parties to not only keep to programme deadlines, but also to achieve very high architectural and performance standards within a tightly controlled budget.

Simon Keegan, Commercial Director for 3D Aluminium, commented: “We work right across all the market sectors and in refurbishment as well as on new-build projects such as this, offering a full in-house design capability as well as producing our own products. We have made extensive use of the Technal range for many years and always receive excellent technical support. In the case of the John Radcliffe Hospital Welcome Centre, the contract went very well – with our being responsible for the design and fabrication of the MX curtain walling with MX Concealed Vent windows.”

Technal’s MX suite of curtain walling profiles offers contractors and consultants the widest set of technical and practical benefits as well as providing an aesthetic and very durable solution for a variety of project types. The system has been tested to provide excellent wind and weather resistance as well as thermal performance beyond the requirements of the Building Regulations; while enabling specifiers to maintain consistent sightlines across complex elevations.
