Edith Morley Building, The University of Reading

3D Aluminium carried out the installation of replacement Aluminium Windows, Doors and Curtain Walling to the Edith Morley Building at the University of Reading.

3D Aluminium installed over 800 Sapa Dualslide Windows with Tilt function over the entire project. Utilising advanced polyamide thermal break technology, Dualslide provides high thermal performance without the need to resort to foam filled profiles or complex and costly sealed unit specifications.

The University of Reading appointed 3D Aluminium following a mini-competition through the LHC A6 Framework agreement, with an overall project value of approximately £1,500,000. In addition to the replacement works, 3D managed the removal of asbestos containing materials in co-ordination with our works.

3D co-ordinated closely with the University’s Estates and Facilities management when programming works to provide minimal disruption to the busy exam timetable period, whilst at the same time not delaying the overall programme. This led to 3D installing a phase of the new windows out of hours to ensure there were no delays to the £1.5m refurbishment scheme.

This scheme was part of the re-invigoration of the existing HumSS Building due to coincide with this years’ re-naming of the building in honour of Edith Morley, who is believed to be the first woman awarded the title of professor in a British University, following a decision taken by the University Executive Board.

The LHC is a free to use procurement framework to assist local authorities, social landlords and other public sector bodies make more informed choices about the products and services they need for the construction, refurbishment and maintenance of social housing and public buildings.
